Recent workplace accident at newly opened mall proves fatal

Many construction workers in Illinois and across the nation perform job-related duties at heights nearly every day. Even with safety regulations and equipment in place to help reduce the risks of such operations, falls from heights continue to be a leading cause of work-related incidents. One person died during a recent workplace accident after he reportedly fell from an elevated section of a building in another state.

According to reports, the incident took place on a recent Tuesday morning as construction continued on a newly opened mall. Officials have advised the man was performing job-related tasks on an elevated portion of the building when he suddenly fell to the ground below. While the man was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of severe injuries, he passed away shortly after arriving at the facility.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reports that an investigation into the incident is underway. However, no further information was provided as to how the incident might have occurred. Incidents of this nature can have a devastating impact on the surviving loved ones of the deceased, and in addition to the emotional grief involved, the sudden loss of income and end-of-life expenses could also lead to substantial monetary hardships.

Families who lose a loved one in a fatal workplace accident may be eligible for financial relief through the workers' compensation insurance system, but the process can be complex. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can examine the incident and assist a person in Illinois in navigating the process. This type of guidance could help a person better prepare to pursue the full amount of compensation achievable through every applicable source.
