Diagnostic errors lead to medical malpractice claim

When it comes to treating a major medical condition, the timing and accuracy of the diagnosis could prove crucial. An inaccurate or delayed diagnosis could leave a person in Illinois without the necessary care for extended periods, which may only cause the condition to continue to deteriorate over time. A man in another state has recently filed a medical malpractice claim after claiming doctors failed to diagnose signs of a tumor in his bladder.

According to the lawsuit, the man first visited the facility after he began to experience urinary problems and pain in his side and abdomen. Medical professionals administered scans shortly thereafter, the results of which indicated the presence of kidney stones. The lawsuit states the scan also identified the possible presence of a tumor but asserts that his doctors failed to notify him of the mass or to schedule any follow-up treatments.

Two years later, the results of an ultrasound identified the presence of multiple tumors, and he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. The lawsuit states that he was forced to undergo a procedure to remove his bladder and prostate, and it asserts that this path of care might have been avoidable had he received a correct diagnosis during his initial visit. He filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the facility soon thereafter, and he was awarded a judgment of $8.5 million during legal proceedings.

Diagnostic errors can have cataclysmic consequences that could leave a person with severe or even life-altering injuries. Those who suffer such harm due to the negligence of another party could choose to consult with an experienced attorney for advice on the best course of action with which to seek restitution. An attorney can examine the circumstances a client in Illinois is facing and assist in pursuing the full amount of compensation entitled through a medical malpractice claim.
